3 People Living Waste Free
Top 3 People Living Waste Free

Living waste free is something I have mentioned plenty of times previously in my blog post when it comes to going green and living eco-friendly. Minimizing your waste has many benefits from saving money to saving the environment. Decreasing your annual trash decreases pollution increasing the earths quality of life along with yours. In my earlier blog post I talked about setting goals in order to minimize waste, however setting these goals may be hard if you don't understand HOW other people are successfully achieving these goals in living eco-friendly.
The steps to minimizing your waste are:
1. Buy used items, check out your local thrift and consignment shops!
2. Use reusable bags
3. Use reusable containers
4. Compost your degradable items, such as yard trimmings and food scraps.
5. Buy in bulk!! Doing so allows you to get more items for your money while reducing the amount of packaging as well.
Question though...How do you do these steps effectively in order to actually make a difference and live waste free? Below are success stories of normal people like you and me who have successful lived a waste free life. If these people can do it so can you and I.
The first person on the list or successful people living waste free is Lauren Singer.
Lauren Singer decided to start reducing her waste when she was in her senior year of high school. She has successfully produced only one mason jar of trash in two years. This is huge considering many people produce about this amount of trash in one week. Below is a video of Lauren explaining her transition to living waste free and how she has found so much success in her endeavors of doing so.
A few take away points from her video are the important factors into her becoming waste free are she compost and buys in bulk. She will use only products that she can put in the compost or buy products in bulk to put in her reusable containers. For example she brings large canteens to local breweries and fills them up, in order to still drink without producing the waste of all the bottles. All of her daily household items she either makes or buys items that she is able to put in the compost. Daily items that she makes or buys eco-friendly include: shampoo, dryer sheets, make up wipes, toothbrush and toothpaste. When Singer was interviewed she mentioned to just make small changes at a time in order to work your way up.
In order to help people live a waste free live Lauren Singer has made her own business called The Simply Co. On this website Lauren provides products, tips on how to live waste free, and her blog.
Erin Rhoads has been plastic free for over two years, she produces little to no waste. The benefits of reducing the amount of trash she produces she states has improved her health, saved her money and has increased her happiness by improving her quality of life. Erin Rhoads has a blog on her endeavors on living waste free where she provides tips on how to start living eco-friendly and why she started living waste free. Some of her tips include, "buying soap bars, using essential oils such as almond and rosehip in lieu of various toiletries — body and face moisturizer, perfume…and making your own." A main reason she started living waste free, was to decrease the negative effects trash has on the wildlife. As an animal lover myself I would have to agree on this influencing my drive to become waste free.
Check out Erin Roads blog, The Rogue Ginger for more information on resources you can use and how to start living waste free. I found the most interesting section of her blog to be the Beauty & Body section where she provides plenty of DIY's for beauty products. One of the DIY she provides is on how to make shampoo out of an avocado seed.
